Yangon Civil Servants Visit Hong Kong

Hong Kong-based non-profit initiative Governance Partners Yangon (“GPY”) organised a one-week programme for a delegation of senior civil servants from the Yangon Region Government in Myanmar which took place on 23-29 July 2017. Led by U Than Win, Joint Secretary of the Yangon Region Transport Authority, the delegation comprised 11 civil servants specialising in public transport planning and operation.

A dinner reception was hosted in honour of the visiting delegation upon their arrival, with welcoming remarks delivered by the former Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, and former Commissioner for Belt and Road, Miss Yvonne Choi. They highlighted respectively the value of knowledge exchange programmes on public governance, and the importance of the bilateral relations between Hong Kong and ASEAN including Myanmar.

The delegation gained a comprehensive understanding on Hong Kong’s public transportation system through interactive seminars, roundtable sessions and site visits to study the operation of MTR and buses, electronic payment and congestion management. Topics on public governance were also discussed. Expert speakers of the programme included former Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Stephen Lam, former President of the Legislative Council Mr Jasper Tsang, Deputy Director of HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education Dr Dorothy Chan, and former Member of the Legislative Council (Transport) Ms Miriam Lau. The programme was supported by the The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong, the HKU SPACE and the MTR Academy.
