BRO Talk: Building Human Capital through Hong Kong (20-11-2024)
The Belt and Road Office Talk "Building Human Capital through Hong Kong", held on November 20, 2024, brought together participants from the business, education and youth sectors, as well as students and graduates from the Belt and Road to share on Hong Kong's uniqueness as a hub of building human capital and their personal experience of studying and working here.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Belt and Road, Mr Nicholas Ho, noted that Hong Kong's role as both a "super connector" and "super value-adder" is nurturing talent in the city for the Belt and Road regions. He underscored the importance of the Belt and Road Scholarship and other initiatives in building human capital through Hong Kong, adding that over 4,000 Belt and Road students currently study in Hong Kong. As an international trade and financial centre, Hong Kong offers unique experience for these Belt and Road talents benefitting their contribution to the globe in the future.
The Under Secretary for Education Mr Jeff Sze, the Commissioner for Youth Mr Eric Chan, and the Director of Hong Kong Talent Engage Mr Anthony Lau also attended and spoke at the talk, highlighting Hong Kong's various initiatives in enhancing education, youth development, and talent engagement.
Representatives from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Education University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Lingnan University and University of Hong Kong gave briefings on the opportunities for overseas students to pursue education in Hong Kong and the institutions' collaboration with the Belt and Road regions. Over 80 participants attended the talk.
